August 28, 2024

We had to get these things done before the show and we had to have them validated and functional, we needed them to work in a arena that we had set up at the show and our customers needed to be able to play with them so they had to be durable, robust, and we needed them quick.

Gel Blaster Nexus 3D Printed Functional Prototype | Stratasys Direct

Gel Blaster, a leader in family entertainment, faced a significant challenge while preparing for the IAAPA trade show where they planned to debut their new gel blasters.  With the show just weeks away, Gel Blaster needed 24 robust, durable prototypes that could withstand extensive handling and live play in an area-style format.  More importantly, they needed to function without fail in live play conditions, making the design, material, and technology choices critical. So they turned to Stratasys Direct.

Solution Provided by Stratasys Direct

Stratasys Direct collaborated closely with Gel Blaster to refine their designs for additive manufacturing. Using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology, Stratasys Direct 3D printed blaster clamshells that would fit together seamlessly. SLS was chosen for its ability to create complex designs in a single, continuous part without needing to bond separate pieces together. The team also selected Nylon 12 GF (glass-filled) for its durability and finish quality, making it ideal for this specific project.

Outcome

Within two weeks, Stratasys Direct delivered 24 beautiful and functional prototypes. Showcased at IAAPA, the blasters were well received among visitors, and endured extensive handling without fail.
